MSE Hiller is a leading name in the supply and rental of centrifuges and sludge dewatering equipment, working with the leading names in Industry to install state of the art centrifuge technology.

Drivers for the project

Working with some of the Country’s largest and most prestigious food producers, MSE Hiller were keen to improve on their already impressive green credentials by turning to solar power to operate their head office and factory as close to carbon neutral as possible.


The site based on junction 29 of the M1 has a dual pitched roof at different levels, this was designed with architectural beauty in mind and although a striking building provided some access challenges. In addition to this, the highest point of the roof is located close to an overhead power line that runs adjacent to the M1 itself.


Custom Solar assessed both land and roof systems for solar but uncovered a small planning issue with the neighbouring land, this led to the installation of a 75kW roof-mounted system on top of the factory and head office roof that feeds directly into the existing electrical system to power cranes and CNC machines. A bespoke harness system was also installed to overcome the access and safety requirements of such an interesting site.


The solar PV system at MSE Hiller has reduced the monthly expenditure on electricity but During summer months sees the site go ‘off grid’ and export remaining power back to the local grid.
