First Solar Install takes place for BAE at their Scotstoun site as part of a wider multi-site rollout

Overview of the challenge

BAE Systems provide some of the world’s most advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions.

Working with customers and local partners, they develop, engineer, manufacture, and support products and systems to deliver military capability, protect national security and people, and keep critical information and infrastructure secure.

BAE are committed to setting science-based targets to align with the aim of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming.

In 2024, they announced their target to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across their operations by 2030 and across their value chain by 2050.

Our approach

By engaging with the local DNO and appeasing challenges within the local network, along with securing planning requirement with Scottish Planning, Custom Solar were able to develop and install 2 rooftop solar PV systems for BAE Scotstoun.

We used a total of 2144 PV panels to create 2 systems, sized 439kWp & 407kWp across buildings 9839 & 9744. With an annual generation of 744,569kWh, BAE will be reducing their CO2 emissions by 346,300kg per year.

The result

  • 744,569kWh electricity generated
  • 99.1% onsite consumption
  • 2,144 Solar Panels
  • 346.3t carbon reduction
